“You are the sum total of everything you've ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot - it's all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.”

- Maya Angelou

Let me paint the canvas leading up to the here and now, not so that when you see my colors, you won’t need to tilt your head to make sense of it, but more so, that when you do, you step back and accept that all those colors represent my brava-ness.

I am...

The kid who had chronic severe asthma, and so many close encounters with collapsed lungs, that living fearlessly was the only option. The woman who still hears her mom say, "portarse bien", so my fingers still fold into each other when I am among new company...except at the beach where that voice is non-existent. The kid with a new typewriter, and a poem or two to write. The woman who can’t say no to a freshly baked chocolate-chip cookie, a battle I don’t care to win. The kid who early on learned to alter her voice to sound older when paying my parents' bills in English. The woman who since then fumbles with her words in Spanish (I’m getting better y'all), but whose heart beats the drums of her grandparents.  The kid who grew excited over a journal anyday over a stuffed animal or doll, and the woman who now has so many unused journals. But that is ain’t ova! I am still painting my canvas. The kid that demanded a spot in flag football with the neighborhood kids and discovered her booty during a sir-mix-alot dance-off, and yes this was caught on tape. The teen who ‘suaded her High School Principal to allow her to attend two high schools at the same damn time. The kid-then-turned teen who would stare outside of her window imagining what her future would look like. The woman that stood outside that same window and looked up at it and smiled. Nostalgic. The woman who is a bonafide hustler, an empath, a healer, a warrior, sex positive- ladies get your O - a don’t get-got lover, an ally to many marginalized people, agnostic, a find-your-voice advocate, a seeker of all the wonders in this world and multiverse, and a bilingual storyteller.
